Ingredients

- 2 cups masa harina
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1/2 cup lard or vegetable shortening
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups cooked and shredded meat (chicken, pork, or beef)
- 1 cup salsa
- 20–25 corn husks, soaked in warm water
Instructions
- Soak corn husks in warm water for 30 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix masa harina, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, beat lard until fluffy, then add masa mixture and chicken broth.
- Spread a spoonful of masa on each corn husk.
- Add filling and roll the husk tightly.
- Place tamales upright in a steamer pot.
- Steam for 1 to 1.5 hours, until masa is firm.
Notes
- Use your favorite filling for variety.
- Serve with additional salsa on the side.
- Freeze leftovers for future meals.
