  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, cocoa, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar.
  4. Add molasses, egg, and vanilla to the butter mixture.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture.
  6. Pour the batter into a greased baking pan.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes.
  8. Let cool before cutting into squares.

Notes

  • Store in an airtight container.
  • Can be topped with icing if desired.
